Yes, some things are better to be kept from public.

The only thing I can think the question means is like if there's one of those rock things heading straight towards us that would kill us all, or an alien attack is on the way ( ), in which case, no they should bloody not be. I'd want to say my goodbyes and make sure I spent the time I have left doing something instead of the usual lazying around.
I'd be off to Canada .

Maybe it's because I'm nosy, but I think there are close to no circumstances where keeping something from the public is the "right thing to do".

yeah but only from the americans they don't know what to do with the truth its better for them if they just believe the lies they're told in other words its better to let things be

Yes, I'm not sure if I'd want to know all their secrets.

Heck yes! People cannot be trust with anything these days. In most circumstances people freak out and create mass panic which is often worse than the event itself. Even if they did know certain things, it's not like they'd know what to do anyway. Sure there are some things that people need to know, if it makes sense for everyone to know. And sadly, a lot of people would use the information, or the circumstance at hand to their advantage and manipulate and perhaps 'cause harm to others. So in the long run, I believe it is better to keep certain things private and from the public.

I think that is silly to say. America can't win with people who think like this either way. It's either, you police the world too much, or you don't police it enough. People can say what they want about America and pretend to hate it all they want, but in all honesty, the world needs an America to step up and make decisions and take action, when no one else will 'cause they'd rather sit around and do nothing since it's "not their problem." Obviously no one else in the world knows what to do with the truth since they've still done nothing and they supposedly "know" the truth.

I'm sorry, but when people make generalizations about America and make statements like this, it really ticks me off.

well it really depends on what it is. if it's, say, the Sun turning into a black hole (ahh!) then yes, we should know about it. but if it's something else, like miley cyrus dying her hair, WHO CARES?????? (not me)

I don't really understand this question... do they mean, like Aliens? How government keeps that a secret from us? I don't know, the government keeps a LOT of secrets but I believe that we should know about these things.

No, I think we should be told things so that major crises aren't so surprising. And if people freak out at everything it's their own fault

my answer is no cuz there is no it depends option...
but truth is WHO CARES???!!!!

i mean, its not like ppl who keep secrets from the public are gonna reveal them only for what is said in this poll (even do i see that most of you agree on secrets been kept)

and most important, ppl who keeps secrets from us (the goverment, police, FBI, bankers, etc) do it sometimes thinking in the public, and other times thinking in their own interests... which we are not part of, and will never be... so the more you think about it, the more angry you'll get and the more impotent you'll feel

I think we as the public have the right to know, even if most of us don't really care, we should still know.

i would of said yes, but the phrase "for their own benefit/good" is often stretched until it is all a hush, hush situation..... then it turns into a conspiracy

so no for the fact that so many people change around their interpritation of rules so that they can use it when it is clearly not an appropriate time....
