| No. I'm not patriotic enough to care.
I get angry too [discussion] that the money put into JUST the ceremony amounts to billions, and there is so much in this world we need to put that money towards. This is why 2012 is probably going to make me cry. | 13-08-2008 00:08 JewUnit | 8,154 posts

| Well i watched the opening, but then i found out it's all fake.
The little girl in the red dress was lipsynching. The real girl who sang was younger and she had crooked teeth and a bit chubby. So the chinese people didn't want her to be on world wide tv cause she's "ugly".
Plus.. The fireworks with the "giant footsteps" walking towards the stadium are also fake. They weren't fired live.
And.. They tricked the image of some parts..

| No, I'm watching Lord of the Rings.
But seriously. They can't fake the actual games though . I see parts when my parents have it on during the day. My mum actually suggested I keep it on all night (because I don't sleep until almost 6am) and write down what's happening for her. I don't think so. | 13-08-2008 00:19 The_Demon_ |

| I put no But I wish i was watching it.
[discussion] No use not watching it because they wasted billions on the opening ceremony that they could be using on more important stuff. They still wasted all of that money to make a riveting performance even if you did or didn't watch it, put on for the audience which is.. the world. they did it for you. watch it. Or you could just not and all of those teenagers could've wasted their lives for nothing. | 13-08-2008 01:25 Joeyy |

| * offtopic : Yeah, I feel really crappy for the girl who actually sang. What tw*ts; she looked fine to me and the people were there/watching to hear a little kid sing, not admire what a young girl looks like. Idiots.
The fireworks were quite obviously not all real though. It was still a great sight.
I agree with Ryles about the money. There are far more important things that it could be spent on. And if they are going to spend it on their own country, then damn London for putting so much of it into the Olympics in 2012 when they wouldn't even bloody give us that casino to bring more tourist attraction and money. (Yep, I'm bitter.)

| Yes, I love it! I'm nervous watching New Zealanders compete though, and hate the way they media loves them when they win, but ignore them if they don't. For a country of 4ish million just getting people to the Olympics is worth celebrating (and we don't spend as much on our athletes as a lot of other countries *cough*Australia/United States/China/Russia/etc*cough* | 13-08-2008 01:58 IsThisMyFate |

| Yes, I am watching them right now, actually, although I do find some events boring *coughcough*beach volleyball*coughcough*. But to all of you who are hating on the Olympics, while I take your points, and believe, too, that some things about the Olympics are wrong, I also think you're missing the bigger picture. The Olympics have been a tradition dating back thousands of years, and the whole point is to unite the world, and forget petty disputes, and compete good-naturedly and fairly (yes, you could argue that more populous/wealthy countries have an advantage, but you know, there's always going to be disadvantage in the world, and that doesn't make a less populous/wealthy country's athletes lesser or unable to win). So yes, there are bad things about the Olympics, but you know, it's already done, and I don't see it ending any time soon, and though we can do more to make the Olympics more humane, we should all just enjoy them for what they are, and take pride in our countries and learn to respect others. | 13-08-2008 03:06 Jacob31593 |
