| Well yeah. Not really for life but for a short while. I've seen alot of ppl pushing and shouting in a club everytime papa roach is on with last resort. Of course there's alcohol, and they're fooling around, but it still counts as violence, and the music caused that. I agree music doesn't make killers, but it can get in to your head. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 08:30 Dagor | 34,864 posts
| It pumps people up. The adrenaline levels are rising. If they are already tending to be violent, then music might enhance that (for a short while) | 0 @ 14-05-2008 10:03 llcm | 1,283 posts

| hit the freeway w/deep purple's machine head or steppenwolf's greatest hits and see if you don't drive faster and try to run over the top of other drivers.
not that everybody does it but you can get caught up w/o even knowing it.
watch a movie w/o music, BORING.
no emotion
music can control how you interact w/ the world.
ps i love deep purple and steppenwolf
so watch out for me on the roads!! | 0 @ 14-05-2008 12:31 spider87 | 486 posts

| no. music may change many other things like make you feel better, but i don't think it can make anyone more violent. if someone is violent, then it's not music's fault. | +1 @ 14-05-2008 13:57 Barakine | 21,965 posts
| If we're talking about some kind of a long-term effect on psychology, then no. But basically it might increase your anger.
I kind of agree with what Daniel said. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 14:11 chong | 7 posts
| Music has many effects on our minds, but what I call real music will never turn someone to the dark side, maybe pseudomusic as you said marylin manson and other kind of "music" can do something like that.
We all are determined to have certain behavior, if someone has in her/his genes to become violent, some day the enviorment will...bla bla bla bla, for more information about this read Principles of neural science. Eric Kandel. Mc Graw Hill | 0 @ 14-05-2008 14:19 Zombie1 | 109 posts
| i think it depends on the person but i really dont think music can make someone who is not violent turn violent | 0 @ 14-05-2008 14:42 mariogarza | 28 posts
| It doesn't make ME more violent, I don't know if it makes other people violent. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 15:31 RandmBiskit | 301 posts
| I kind of agree with Cyd and Switchfoot12. If a person is naturally calm and peaceful, I don't think any amount of music could make them turn violent. (Unless it was music they REALLY hated that got blasted at them for hours on end... ) But if a person is naturally violent, it could make them more so than normal.
But then, movies and books can also have the same effect. It's that some people have the sort of personality which is particularly susceptible to this sort of thing, rather than the actual music. I like some angry music, which doesn't make me feel at all violent; and some fairly calm, quiet music, which doesn't actuallly do all that much to calm me down
Chong, I could get into a whole big argument here, but let's just say that I think a person's experiences affect them just as much, if not more than, their genes. Personalities are determined by experience; not so long ago, I changed completely, because I was sick of always being shy and stuff. If my personality was predetermined, I couldn't have done that.
* offtopic : On the subject of susceptibility etc, did anyone see Derren Brown's Trick or Treat? I'm not sure what countries it's shown in... But a woman pressed a button which would supposedly kill a kitten, because she was told not to Derren Brown is scary.

| * offtopic : My friend told me about this happening in that show. I wasn't surprised as there's not just that case study on the matter.
On topic: Well, there are some songs that make me wanna screw so yeah, some of my music gives me an urge to (attempt to) kick ass but as I know "right" from "wrong" and care about the consequences 'n' stuff, I'm not going to actually do it. Might destroy a few objects if I'm really p*ssed though, but something other than music has to fuel it and ze songs aren't taking away my free will to control my actions or causing me mental health problems.
Soo, it depends. But as the music itself can't literally "make" you violent, I opted for 'no'. (Like, I'm sure a happy and satisfied person isn't going to hear an 'angry' song then take a knife and stab someone - bit of an extreme example but whatever.) | -1 @ 14-05-2008 16:36 TheChristianGuy | 16 posts
| If you listen to it frequently, then yes! | 0 @ 14-05-2008 16:49 GrandeAcure | 129 posts
| Nope, it actually calms me down. I listen to screamo whenever I'm pissed off (only, I don't really like screamo) , and it really calms me down xD | +1 @ 14-05-2008 16:59 andro | 42,248 posts
| No, music doesn't make people violent. It just makes for a good scapegoat when people do go crazy and kill a few people and don't want to admit that it's really the parents who are to blame. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 17:31 indie | 86 posts
| well ... yes i think so.
music intensifies my feelings in general. it can make me happy or sad or what ever ... and of course also violent ... well i call it aggressive, but isn't that the same?
but the music that makes me aggressive is usually music i hate | +3 @ 14-05-2008 18:32 Joeyy | 5,355 posts
| "but the music that makes me aggressive is usually music i hate"
Ha, now there's truth in that for me. If I ever heard too much dance or rap I might just go stir crazy and kill people. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 18:39 nyoka | 2 posts
| yes depending on ur motive for listening a particular song. | 0 @ 14-05-2008 21:06 Arual_92 | 595 posts
| kind of.. but it depends to what extent of violence it means. | +1 @ 14-05-2008 21:09 Rainbow_Chaser | 76 posts
| Well... If you're already pissed off and you listen to violent music it can make you even more pissed
Like.. When you're mad, you listen to Dope - Die MF Die(Was the first one I could think of) and you step towards the people, you can get the courage and adrenaline goin' ;D | 0 @ 14-05-2008 22:14 Taillan | 25 posts
| Anybody has noticed the absurb? It's a site that publishes lyrics, people that comment here are mostly fans of music...
Yeah, they still might become violent. Anything might make us violent, it depends on the way we look at it. The sun might've irritated me, had I been a vampire...
That was a No. | +1 @ 14-05-2008 22:20 Cyd | 11,135 posts
