Obviously, the egg. God (or whatever external force that created the universe) created the first eggs, where chickens and roosters were born to mate and make more of their species. The end.

The Egg

birds are derived from ancestral reptiles (technically they should be grouped with reptiles anyway), and the adaptive trait of egg laying came well before feathers, flight, and endotherymy.

Tim makes the best case. I suppose it depends on the viewpoint people take on it.

Simply put: I don't care:

Genesis
20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."

Because it says the chicken came first. I used to follow that. I'm sorry, but that is how little I cared.

EGG!
There were certain animals previous to the chicken, who kept evolving until 2 determinate subjects mate and as a result the female lays the first egg containing that animal which will be the chicken, but the animals who got together to make it weren´t chickens, they were a prior form of evolution that resulted in the animal in question.

I think the egg came first. Because of evolution. Something laid an egg that was supposed to be like it, but turned out to be a chicken.

I would've assumed it was the egg but then I have read quite a few articles which say that the "chicken or egg first" dilemma is ill defined.

Its obviously the egg. Ill tell u why. Ok to me, this question is so blatently obvious, i dont no y its so famous. OF COURSE ITS THE EGG. How cud a chicken just come to be. Chicken have to be born (out of eggs), unless it was some like Radiation thing, that mutated a bunch of turkeys into chickens overnight or something. But no. My theory, two similar animals mated (like Duck and peecock or something i have no f**king idea) and the female laid an egg, and BOOM, out came a Chicken. I mean chickens come out of eggs, they dont just Be, they dont come out of nowhere, regarless of where the egg came from, it was laid b4 the chicken was born. Dam. So obvious to me. I just cant keep a broad mind about this.

First I thought "the chicken", but now I guess it was the egg...
An animal, which wasn't a chicken, put the egg, and the animal in it turned to be a chicken.
