occasionally I say politely that I'm not interested

but a large majority ignore that and continue talking anyway

i make them hang up. i ask them personal questions and hit on them. its fun and they dont call back.

I answer their questions lots of the time, I feel bad for them always getting hung up on, and yelled at.
Also, I have no life.

We don't get many like that anymore! *phew* We get a lot of automated telemarketers instead though.

I hang up on the automatic ones. Whenever they're "people" they always want to ask about having new windows or something and when I tell them this is a rented house [so no] they usually hang up on me!

Should usually avoid personal information altogether though, as they could be hustlers. :/

Haha. I usually have fun with it and creep them out by asking them stuff and ignoring their questions. Then they usually jsut get mad and hang up. It can be fun sometimes, if you make it so. ^^

Eh? I agree with a few in here. That is.. I would flirt and fake an accent too, but to an extent so that it's not rude. Although this obviously applies to "live" telemarketers

I'm definitely no saint, but I try to put myself in the position of the other person (whatever job it may be) and think how I would feel if I was abused just because I did my job.

So, where the "give me your personal phone number so I can bother you at dinnertime" option?

We used to get an "out of area" call everyday around dinnertime and when we picked the phone up, it was always a "dead line".

Well I have caller id so I usually don't pick up but if I do pick up then I just hang up right away.. My brother used to pick it up & swear at them

do not call registry works pretty well. I don't get telemarketing calls anymore. But when I did I usually hung up on them.. or yelled at them and then hung up on them.

I don't have a homephone line, and I don't think cellphones get telemarketer calls, but I remember as a kid my mom would pick up the phone, and you can kind of tell right away if they are one or not, and my mom would just say, "I'm not interested, bye".

I would reeeeeally like to know an accurate sales to calls ratio.
