| By 'english' I'm assuming they meant American, but spoken in english... anyway, no. There is no yes/no answer, but often non english-speaking films that are made with the aim of being recognised worldwide are brilliant, purely because you often need some exceptional film making skills to persuade lazy as hell english speakers to go watch something with sub titles. | 01-03-2006 00:10 Squareheaddude | 10,973 posts
| Well in most cases foreign cinema is better than the new hollywood, cuz well different goals mainly, and British cinema is excellent! | 01-03-2006 00:12 JewUnit | 8,154 posts

| No they are equal, its just that you can assume most of the LetsSingIt community is from North America so obviously they are exposed to English films a lot more than foreign. Hey there are some kickass Japanese movies done by Akira Kurosawa. | 01-03-2006 00:15 TheVeronicas | 197 posts
| everyone who said yes, think about the Harry Potter movies....all made and filmed in England. But then again those who voted no, think about casa blanca, a great movie also. The movie quality is defined by the script and partly by the actors. So it doesnt really matter where the movie is made. Obviously, some roles come into play, like, obviously the rich United States is going to have better video quality than a poo country in africa or somewhere not so rich. | 01-03-2006 00:18 PinkFloyd |

| Of course not ! There's so many country producing great movies but people don't have the occasion to see them because american movies are all over and there's no place left for independant movies and this is totally unfair. And as people don't watch many foreign movie they think american's are the best... when they truly aren't (in my opinion). | 01-03-2006 01:22 hardousa | 17 posts

I think that's a good point, in that any person wants to watch a movie in their language. Even when I was watching the Japanese movie Returner (Ritana), which was a very good movie, I turned on English dubbing.
That said, there have been some pretty good "FOREIGN FLICKS" *Sean Connery chuckcles ;-)* such as Returner and Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain), but I think besides India America makes the most movies, and through ample occasions to practice and the sheer quality of movies produced, I'd say America does make the most high-quality movies.
P.S. The joke is that capital L and I together look like U (LI) get it? *nudge nudge* |
