#154, best i've ever done!! i know, its sad. they are placed in a manner where it is easy to formulate the american words esier. The letter a is the most used word in the american dictionary or words, therefore it is placed in the middle. The letter q is barely ever used, along with z, x, and v. All these letters are placed out of the middle. The spacebar is placed so that it is accesable by the thumbs. DUHH!! I took computers in like 7th grade n i still remember that!!

so, if i buy a keyboard in....mexico for example, the keys will be placed according to the letters spanish-speaking people use the most? i mean, the keyboards change depending on which country you live(different languages)?

it may be a dumb question....but i had to ask

I'm conffused.
keyboards are the same anywhere, but the reason I knew is different
In school they told us that when the first keyboard were invented for the typewriter has the keys in another order, but the machine was too slow and didn't work really well... so they change the place so the typewriters were slower... and they get used to it, and never change it
have someone heard this?

i've heard they
just placed it in
a random order
and just got used
to having it like that.

they might be changing
the whole keyboard
letter order for the
next generation i think.

in like a few years
im not sure...

Killthemall: You are correct... Mechanical typewriters were unable to keep up... So they designed the "normal"/QWERTY-system to make it harder to write fast...

Do your homework, kids!

OK, I learned in school that they're in that order so we can type faster, original typewriters were in alphabetical order, and QWERTY is a lot faster than that.
Never heard of the Dvorak, kind of interesting.
