i used to hate this theory, but when i think about it, computer games reward the played for violence without cause, whereas violence on tv usually suggests some kind of justification for it

Yes, they do. They're not responsible solely for violent behavior though. Parents need to discipline kids into having enough common sense to not be influenced.

If a kid is stupid enough to kill someone, he's probably not any good at games.

If a kid plays games a LOT, he probably isn't spending his time thinking about ways to kill people.

If a kid is good at games, he's not going to ruin his reputation as a badass gamer by ending the life of another.

If a kid kills another kid over a game, he's too stupid to be spending his time playing games.

So therefore, kids who aren't stupid are NOT influenced by games.

If you think they do, you're a fucking idiot.

Alright...This has to be one of the most idiotic polls I have ever seen.

I've been playing video games since I could remember. And I turned out fine. If even the games made me better as a person. For example, I love RPG's. Games like Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire. They have a complex story which deal with love, hate, life and death and bascially every other main emotions we feel. To see people dying left and right and people being effected by it makes you think what would happen for you to do it or feel that pain.

then there is games like Greand Theft Auto. In my opinion they're jsut a game to have fun with. If you compare that game which the government thinks is so bad to scareface, the game is nothing.

And why target video games? The News is the worst thing that ever happened to USA. Let me turn on the tv so I know 4 billion people jsut got killed for no appartent reason. Oh, what was that, they used what to make that bomb? Oh thanks. *writes down* Yeah and video games are the problem o.O

hmm.. I think they CAN encourage kids to be violent, but I think the child has to have the mechanism to be violent built into them already.

Also, I've seen and read from various places that all agree about CNN never giving anything political pure, as it is always filled with propaganda bullshit. I've known of their reputation and only seen it once or twice in other peoples houses, so I can't really be certain.

Thats bulllshit! ..Those things are parents lines when they dont find answers to "Why their children are so violent"... They try to blame it on the video games or/and television, and they deny that its and its always gonna be the parents Fault...If its not the parents fault, then the kids are fucking retards...Thats the tough truth..

I answered no, because I think it's parents' job to tell kid what's true and real and what's not.

lol @ Jimbro You're right tho ;D

whoohoo...! 945...

|Parents need to discipline kids into having enough common
|sense to not be influenced.
My thoughts exactly. Most of us take it for granted that violence is (almost) never necessary, unless it concerns a subject that started violence in the first place.
Should we be taking this for granted...? Is it in man's nature to think this is wrong? I wouldn't think so, but hey, I'm not an expert on the human psyche... Raising someone in a violent environment would make it easier for someone to be violent himself, and games would form a part of this environment. Games, tv, anything, really...
_________

Kids playing games who were brought up knowing violence is a bad thing would be smart enough not to be influenced by it, I think...
_________

Most of us who like gaming would start defending games right away. Me? I love it...! Counterstrike, GTA, Tekken, MGS, FF, you name it, but you have to be reasonable... Sure, most of us (think we were) not influenced by it, but I think it still would be a possibility. Slight improbable, but still, it's possible. (:

kids always want to be like their "superheroes". and if the kid is totally obsessed it could encourage him to be violent. although they have to be a little nuts i guess.

Sword: The question was whether or not they encourage violence, not whether or not they turn people into killers. A game like Quake 3 is hardly preaching peace, love, and caring. Also I've been playing games since I was around 6 or so. I'm now 18, turning 19 this year, so don't make any assumptions that I don't know what I'm on about.

Also, I forgot to add that the fact that games are interactive, while movies are not makes a difference. Not that movies can't be bad themselves, but thats why we have ratings.

no way! I have played video games like... 6 years, and I have never attacked people for no reason, I use violanceonly if I have to. For example: when I defend me/ my friends from the "bad guys".
